So, you want a Boat/Motor/Trailer!
We install Tohatsu/Nissan® motors. While we have installed Honda® and Yamaha® in the past, Tohatsu has several features that make it a better motor in our opinion. The Bluewater Lady and Bluewater Baby require long (20”) shaft motors.TOHATSU ADVANTAGES
1. Hand Starting
Tohatsu incorporates a compression release with pull starter cord on outside of motor. While all of the motors we install are electric start and four stroke, if your battery ever becomes discharged you will need to hand start the motor. Four Stroke motors have a lot of compression and are almost impossible to hand start. Not Tohatsu. They incorporate a compression release and put the starter where you can get to it. Even the 30 Hp is fairly easy to hand start. Check out the other motors, they don’t even provide a pull starter.
2. Fuel Injection
The 25 and 30HP Tohatsu have fuel injection instead of a carburetor like the others. This makes for easier starting and very quiet operation.

Check competing prices and you will see that Tohatsu (which is made in Japan) is the least expensive.
WHAT SIZE MOTOR?
The Least HP engine recommended is a 9.8 HP Tohatsu/Nissan for a Bluewater Baby or Bluewater Lady. The Bluewater Baby will plane with a 9.8 HP & 240lbs aboard (at least). This is mainly suitable for younger mariners or lake use.
With the 20Hp Tohatsu a Bluewater Baby will plane with a full load of four persons. The 15 Tohatsu is the same size and weight motor as the 20 Hp, is only slightly less expensive, and is not recommended for that reason.
The 25 HP is our recommended motor for the Bluewater Baby and will plane the boat with 700lbs aboard and gets excellent fuel economy. The 30 HP is likewise recommended for the Bluewater Lady. The main difference between the 20 hp Tohatsu and the 25/30 hp is that the 25/30 has three cylinders and are less vibration prone. The 25/30 HP is also fuel injected and much quieter than the 15/20hp. Both come with electric tilt but the 25/30 also has electric trim which allows you to tilt the motor underway. The 15/20 must be stopped to tilt.|
